Becoming a Songwriter

Haley Johnsen
Artichoke Community Music School: On-Line (location map)
Thursday, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
09/24/20 - 10/15/20 (4 weeks)

In this course, I will be teaching the basics of songwriting for any style of music. We will startwith questions like, “What is the purpose or goal of a song?” and “How do a lyric, hook and melody work together?”. Students should be prepared to come to the workshop with a recording device, penand paper, and an instrument (although not required!). We will also be using Laura Veirs ‘Kaleidoscope Creativity Cards’ which provide fun prompts for getting a song started. Students may purchase these from her website or I can provide the prompts with my set of cards. https://ravenmarchingband.com/products/creativity-cards

In the end, my hope is that you’ll feel confident of your ability to take an idea and develop it into acomplete song!
