Bas[s]ics: Understanding the Low End
Whether you're a beginner building a foundation, or a seasoned player looking to strengthen one, it helps to have a framework. In this workshop, we'll look at the whats, whys and hows of bass essentials, including:
- Posture: working with your body (and gravity)
- Position: bassist role and expectations
- Pocket: developing rhythmic confidence
- Practice: tools, exercises, and approaches
- Playing: figuring out 'the bass part'
Instrument is optional, but no amplifiers will be needed. Designed for electric and upright bassists of all levels and styles. Tubas will not be turned away.
Rehearsal 101: Unpacking Practice
Love playing but hate to practice? Looking to make your rehearsal efforts more intentional, or even fun? This workshop breaks down the whats, whys, and hows of making musical progress.
Topics will include:
- Setting goals
- Establishing a routine
- Keeping it fun
- Solving technical problems
- Learning new music
- Incorporating music theory (or not)
- Preparing for performance
Bring note-taking tools, questions, and a willingness to share your own experience, struggles, and successes. Open to all instruments, all levels.
